Traveling to Lisbon

From the U.S. or Canada, you’ll find may direct flights to Lisbon, Portugal (LIS). The Altis Grand Hotel is a 15-30 minute cab ride from the airport.

There are taxis available at the airport to transport you to the hotel. Rates are metered, and small fees may apply per piece of luggage—you can expect to pay between €15-30, depending on traffic.

Again,  Lisbon has many direct flights from across North America: United via Newark, TAP Portugal via Miami, British Airways via Baltimore,  American Airlines via Philadelphia, TAP Air Portugal from Toronto, among others. Several other airlines provide connecting services.

Currency exchange

You’ll need euros, so it’s best to exchange your dollars before you leave the airport. To avoid poor exchange rates at banks and hotels, you can withdraw euros at ATMs—especially with bank cards that have no foreign transaction fees.

Credit cards

Most restaurants, shops, and hotels in Portugal will accept credit cards.Look for a sign near the entrance noting which cards are accepted. Visa and Mastercard are more commonly used, though some businesses will accept American Express and Diners credit cards.

You’ll have an easy time keeping yourself busy in Lisbon, but why not see what else the country has to offer?

To the north, you have the Silver Coast and the Douro River Valley, along with the under-the-radar cities of Porto and Braga.  

To the south, of course, you have the Algarve—Portugal’s most popular destination for expats. It’s the same area you’ll find all those postcard beaches and coastal towns, and it’s where you can most easily get by on English alone.

Driving in Portugal

If you’d like to stay for a while and see the country by car, all you’ll need is a valid driver’s license from your home country. You can also get an International Driver’s License available from AAA, or in Canada, CAA. There’s no better way to explore Portugal.

Cancellation Information

All cancellations must be sent to our conference department by email. For cancellations received more than 30 days before the start of the event, we will return your payment, minus a $250 administration fee per person. For cancellations received less than 30 days before the start of the event, the conference fee is nonrefundable. A full credit will be provided. Credits must be used within 24 months after cancelling.

*Please note that all cancellation fees may be used as a credit towards a future Live and Invest Overseas conference or other products.
