Traveling to the Algarve

From the U.S. or Canada, you may first land in Lisbon, Portugal (LIS), before taking a 45-minute flight south to Faro (airport code FAO). The Grande Real Santa Eulália Resort & Hotel Spa is about a 40-minute cab ride from Faro airport.

There are taxis available at the airport to transport you to the hotel. Rates start at around €36.

United Airlines has a direct flight from Newark (EWR) to Faro (FAO) that operates four times a week.

Otherwise, you’ll likely fly through Lisbon, which has many direct flghts from across North America: United via Newark, TAP Portugal via Miami, British Airways via Baltimore,  American Airlines via Philadelphia, TAP Air Portugal from Toronto, among others. Several other airlines provide connecting services.

We routinely find that www.kayak.com provides the best airfare results. You can also try the following websites: www.orbitz.com, www.travelocity.com, www.google.com/flights, and www.expedia.com.

You also may want to sign up for free email alerts from your preferred airlines. Take a look at their websites for options. Many websites also offer free email alerts highlighting air travel specials. Try www.travelzoo.com.

Also note that the best way to get the best deal on a flight is to be flexible with your travel dates and airports, if possible.

Currency exchange

You’ll need euros, so it’s best to exchange your dollars before you leave the airport. To avoid poor exchange rates at banks and hotels, you can withdraw euros at ATMs—especially with bank cards that have no foreign transaction fees.

Credit cards

Most restaurants, shops, and hotels in the Algarve will accept credit cards. Look for a sign near the entrance noting which cards are accepted. Visa and Mastercard are more commonly used, though some businesses will accept American Express and Diners credit cards.

Driving in Portugal

If you’d like to stay for a while and see the country by car, all you’ll need is a valid driver’s license from your home country. You can also get an International Driver’s License available from AAA, or in Canada, CAA. There’s no better way to explore Portugal.

Cancellation Information

All cancellations must be sent to our conference department by email. For cancellations received more than 30 days before the start of the event, we will return your payment, minus a $250 administration fee per person. For cancellations received less than 30 days before the start of the event, the conference fee is nonrefundable. A full credit will be provided. Credits must be used within 24 months after cancelling.

*Please note that all cancellation fees may be used as a credit towards a future Live and Invest Overseas conference or other products.
